Mac Tip: Grab your background image easily

January 7th, 2007 Luke

Here’s something neat I learned about Macs recently.

When you use OS X’s built in screenshot taker with cmd+shift+4, you can drag a box around something and take a screenshot. If you press space, you don’t have to drag a box, and can make sure that the screenshot is only of the application you are hovering over. If you hover over your desktop background image so that it’s highlighted and click, you take a picture of your background! No icons, no menubar or anything like that, just the background. Strikes me as a handy tool if you wanted to show someone your background image but couldn’t remember where it was.
